Dafydd visited us at Menter a Busnes’ stand at the Royal Welsh Show, Llanelwedd and it was obvious he wanted to start his own part time welding business. Ffatri Fenter helped Dafydd to give the business a professional image. After assisting Dafydd with writing a business plan, and applying for a marketing grant, he worked with a local graphic designer and designed a logo, batch of headed paper, business cards and invoice books. On top of this, Ffatri Fenter organised that he had stickers produced for him to put on every shed, trailer and anything else that his business would build.
Although the first idea was to produce bespoke trailers, the business has gradually developed into the steel fabrication industry on a full time basis. Dafydd had to recently employ a full time employee to assist with the work. He recently received the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award for Powys and is now through to the national finals.
Dafydd has been successful in an Enterprise Competition which is held by the Ffatri Fenter in conjunction with Wales Young Farmers Club. He now employs one full time and three part time workers.
“When I saw an opportunity, I didn’t hesitate before going for it straight away. I was working at home and contracting with another local company....I thought I’d trial out the business for two months before returning to work for someone else. But I never turned back and the business is still growing.”
